The Community Dialogue and Social Cohesion Program was designed to strengthen relationships between diverse community groups, reduce tensions, and promote peaceful coexistence. By working through local organisations, youth groups, and community leaders, the programme facilitated open dialogue, improved mutual understanding, and created platforms for collaboratively addressing shared challenges.
This work was contributed to by both Elias Sahardid and Ms. Jodie Weatherston, whose combined expertise in community cohesion, inclusion, human rights, and grassroots engagement supported the design and delivery of dialogue initiatives. Their contributions helped build trust, enhance participation, and promote more resilient and connected communities.
Social tensions, weak communication channels, and fragmented community structures can undermine local stability. This programme addressed these challenges by creating structured spaces for dialogue and participation, bringing together youth, women, elders, civil society, and local authorities. Trained facilitators led discussions on inclusion, safety, conflict drivers, and community wellbeing, while safe spaces and joint problem-solving sessions encouraged shared decision-making.
By supporting local organisations and promoting initiatives that highlight shared values and collective responsibility, the programme strengthened trust and improved cooperation. These efforts helped communities listen, understand differences, and work together to build a more cohesive and resilient social environment.
