The Curriculum Design and Training for Renewable Energy project developed a comprehensive learning framework to build Libya’s national capacity in solar, wind, and energy-efficiency technologies. The initiative aimed to prepare technicians, engineers, and policy practitioners to support the country’s expanding renewable energy sector and long-term sustainability goals.
This work was led by Dr. Hamza Khalfalla, Senior Renewable Energy and Environmental Expert, and was implemented by Pragma Corporation and funded by USAID, ensuring the curriculum reflected modern technical standards, practical training needs, and Libya’s national renewable energy priorities.
As Libya accelerates its transition to clean energy, the demand for a skilled workforce capable of designing, installing, maintaining, and managing renewable energy systems has become critical. This project responded by developing a modern, modular curriculum aligned with international standards and tailored to national priorities, including the National Strategy for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (NSREEE).
The curriculum follows a practical, competency-based approach and covers key areas such as solar and wind fundamentals, solar PV and solar water heating systems, wind turbine operation, renewable energy grid integration, energy efficiency, safety standards, and system operation and maintenance. It also includes policy and regulatory components, environmental considerations, and training-of-trainers modules. Through hands-on exercises and structured assessment tools, the program supports both technical and institutional capacity, laying the foundation for a scalable national renewable energy training system.
